Post-Injury Rehab

Post-Injury Rehab

I was involved in a motor vehicle accident…in pain, I wasn’t sure which direction to turn and I was becoming frustrated and depressed due to the chronic pain. I was unsure if I would ever be in the same. Fortunately, I was referred to Dr. Carlisle and have been very grateful to have such a great physician in my corner. He has been very responsive to my suffering and has been instrumental in finding the cause of my pain. He listens to me with each visit and with his support as well as expertise my condition has improved. I truly enjoy his passion for patient care and his ability to explain my medical condition, treatment and prognosis with great ease. I am thankful for Dr. Carlisle and his staff for helping me regain hope again.  – S.C

Rehabilitation is the necessary first step of recovery which the patient receives during the initial hours of recovery from surgery or injury.

Physical therapy is a type of treatment that can improve functions of the body to help a person move better, restore fitness, improve physical function, and to decrease pain. Physical therapy includes education and training in areas such as:

  • Performing daily living tasks
  • Protecting yourself from further injury
  • Using durable medical equipment such as walkers or crutches
  • Exercise routines to perform at home to increase the healing process or to manage pain
  • Creating a safer home life – especially if you have balance, vision, or hearing problems

Occupational therapy helps people do the everyday things that matter to them and teaches people who have suffered from pain, illness, or injury to regain the ability to get dressed, participate is social activities, cook meals, or perform job-related tasks. Occupational therapy often includes:

  • Evaluation to determine the patient’s goals and outlook
  • Therapy plan to help the patient reach their goals
  • Determine which daily activities need to be modified to fit the patient’s unique physical needs
  • Measuring outcomes and adjusting therapy plans accordingly
